Preservation of a Connecticut Landmark

Charles Bullfinch’s Old State in Hartford was built in 1796 and has been a highly recognizable icon for the past 200 years. Working for the Connecticut General Assembly, Tecton developed a holistic approach for long-term preservation of the historic building. Multiple phases of restoration were outlined to individually address the cupola, roof, balusters, trims, masonry assemblies, windows and iconic Lady Justice Statue. The result is a historic gem that, with regular maintenance, should last another 100 years.
