This week, employees from Tecton participated in the concluding presentation for the team they have been guiding through the ACE Mentor Program of Connecticut.
This initiative connects high school students with industry professionals to motivate them to explore careers in architecture, construction management, and engineering.
The Hartford Team 3 showcased their project titled “Emergency Shelter,” aimed at assisting men, women, and children in transitioning from homelessness to stable housing by providing a dignified, safe, and clean environment. Their design encompassed not only the building itself but also the surrounding site, ensuring a secure atmosphere that integrated architectural and landscape planning, as well as structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and construction elements. Congratulations to Team 3 for their outstanding presentation, which highlighted their commitment and expertise in architecture, engineering, and construction.
Tecton is dedicated to nurturing the future of the industry through the ACE program, supporting the development of the next generation of designers, engineers and managers. Special thanks are extended to the mentor firms that collaborated with us, including Covenant Shelter of New London, Hallam-ICS, Szewczak, Kilty & Fluhr Structural Engineers, P.C., Fuss & O’Neill, and The Associated Construction Company.

This past weekend, #TeamTecton participated in the Tour of the Litchfield Hills charity bike ride for the 8th year in a row, this time with our friends at @kaestleboos. Together as Team Architx, we rode in memory of our beloved colleagues Jim Haag, Donna Auclair, and Traci Hillebrecht of Architx, who remain close to our hearts.
We’re thrilled to share that with the generous support of our community, we helped raise $2,741 (and counting!) for The Cancer Care Fund of The Litchfield Hills. This incredible fund directly supports cancer care, treatment, education, and prevention for Connecticut residents.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated, cheered us on, or rode alongside us! Your support means the world and helps keep the memories of Jim, Donna, and Traci alive through the work we’re doing together.
Our Public Safety team has had an exciting past few weeks with projects progressing. Town of Lexington, MA Police Department had their ribbon cutting for the new Police Headquarters. #TeamTecton previously worked with the Town of Lexington to design and construct a new Fire Headquarters. We hope the Town and their community are enjoying their new public safety facilities.
Earlier this month City of Greenfield, Massachusetts had the grand opening for their new Fire Headquarters. Tecton is proud to have worked as a Peer Reviewer and Interior Designer with H2M architects + engineers on this project. Congratulations to the City, their emergency responders and community.
Lastly, the Peabody Police Department broke ground this month for the construction of their new Public Safety Headquarters. The complex will be powered entirely by electricity, with a backup generator that runs on diesel, with rooftop and parking canopy solar panels to help achieve a low Energy Use Intensity. The project is expected to complete construction in spring 2026.

We’re closing out National Historic Preservation Month with a view that few get to experience! #TeamTecton has had the honor of participating in the restoration of multiple historic sites in our home city, including Hartford’s Old State House and the Connecticut State Capitol Building. Our work in these projects demonstrates the fascinating dichotomy of how modern technology, like drone photography and 3D digital twins, can be deployed to help document and detail historic architecture with unprecedented accuracy and efficiency.
Preserving historic buildings and sites isn’t just about maintaining structures; it’s about honoring the stories, culture, and craftsmanship that define our shared history. At Tecton, we celebrate the rich architectural heritage that shapes our communities and connects us to our past, while continuously embracing innovation to safeguard these treasures for future generations.

Today, we say addio or farewell to Tecton’s Marco Tommasini as he embraces retirement. Marco joined the firm in 2011 as a part of the DuBose Associates merger, and the place has been livelier because of it. When we talk about what’s most important to Tecton’s success, the relationships with our clients and partners is absolutely at the forefront, and no one epitomizes that commitment more than Marco. He has built a 20+ year relationship with the University of Rhode Island, touched every major building on Suffield Academy’s campus and spent nearly a decade meticulously restoring Westerly’s United Theatre. In recent months, Marco has taken on his newest title…grandpa! And we wish him a relaxing retirement filled with long naps (for the baby!), good wine, fair winds and following seas.
Tecton's Ted Cutler, AIA, LEED AP and Melissa Roy had the opportunity to participate in yesterday's Big Brothers Big Sisters of CT Annual Golf Classic Tournament. As a firm, we are honored to support and sponsor the local nonprofit organization in this event year after year.

Our team has embraced another educational and fun-filled National Public Health Week this year. We have celebrated through daily walks, influential engagement panels and mental health discussions, food drives, and of course tasty treats and pet visitations! Tecton's goal is to continue encouraging overall healthy habits in and outside our workspace, as well as doing our part to improve our community and nation's health. What are some ways you are embracing #NPHW?
This week we are honoring National Public Health Week, an initiative of the American Public Health Association. Tecton is coming together to incorporate creative ways our team can recognize different cultures in health. Today, #teamtecton enjoyed the April sunshine and explored the streets of our Hartford neighborhood to embrace the daily theme, community. We are looking forward to continuing the #NPHW celebration throughout the rest of the week!
For more information on how you can get involved, please visit https://nphw.org/.
Our team is filled with dynamic, creative and insightful women! The architectural field has historically struggled to attract (and retain!) women to its ranks, and we’re working every day to improve representation, opportunity and equity. Through thoughtful hiring and strategic advancements, women now make up close to 50% of our staff, with double the number of women in leadership roles over the past decade. Happy International Women’s Day to women everywhere, you inspire us every day!

Our team has had the pleasure of working with the Town of West Hartford to conceptualize and craft a path forward for their new Elmwood Community Center, Senior Center, Library and Teen Center. Round 2 of our Design Friday series focused on diversity, equity and inclusion, seen through the lens of design. We know that DEI is a constantly evolving practice for our clients (and for Tecton!), and that ultimately we are each the experts on ourselves. Our responsibility as a team lies in communicating the tangible benefits of having the right people at the table (acceptance, innovation, performance), and ensuring appropriate time for meaningful dialogue.

In January of 2020, Tecton opened the year in our new Hartford office, excited at the prospect of creating a new home to support our team and serve our clients. While this year brought many surprises, what we couldn’t have anticipated is that being apart would bring us closer together.
This year has taught us the impact of our words and the value of our time. It has pushed us to find new ways of creating and innovating. And as the lines between spaces to live, work, teach, discover, care and serve blur, it has reminded us why the environments that surround us matter.
Thank you for continually adapting with us and inspiring us. We are grateful for you!
