Norton Elementary School

Cheshire, CT

Tecton Architects is collaborating with the Town of Cheshire to design two new elementary schools. The Norton Elementary School, designed for 661 students, will be built on the existing Norton School site, requiring careful planning and staging. The design process was highly community-driven, incorporating teacher Think Tanks and public workshops. Each school reflects Cheshire’s local character – Norton embraces a “Woods & Trails” theme with timber and stone elements, while the North End School highlights the town’s agrarian roots with a “Farm & Field” aesthetic. Both buildings prioritize sustainability with efficient envelopes, proven mechanical systems, and renewable energy sources, achieving a low EUI of 25. Designed and constructed concurrently, both schools are set to open in August 2026.
