Compact Design Delivers Operational and Energy Efficiency
Oxford Middle School
Oxford, Connecticut
The new Oxford Middle School celebrates STE(A)M Education in a safe, modern learning environment. The school is sited on a shared campus between two existing school buildings, and is designed to promote transparency throughout the building and to each adjacent school. Thoughtful space planning is at the heart of this successful design, with grade level pods organized around a central core that houses shared amenities and specialty classrooms. The central media center features a three-story glass enclosed atrium, with stacked art classrooms, promoting excitement and engagement in the creative process. This circulation structure eliminates the disruption of students passing through, minimizes travel time, and creates an intimate neighborhood feeling within the large building.
